• Yesterday was not fun. But it was also the third day after surgery so not all that unexpected that I felt rough.

Today is better. I’m free of almost everything, I enjoyed my breakfast,  I’ve done a solo lap of the ward and I’m now enjoying a cuppa and a piece of very rich brownie. I’ll do another walk in a bit.

Since they’ve only just removed the epidural this morning it seems likely now Monday will be discharge day, but it could still be tomorrow.

All in all I feel a lot more normal today, which is a real blessing.

    Mart’s roses

Beautiful views, lovely room… I’ll still be pleased to leave 🙂

  • Not so bright and cheery today. Had a rough night with not enough sleep, but then was doing ok initially so we started untangling me from everything tying me down.

The two wound drains are gone, which is great but after some hours of trying without the pain pump it seems I’m not quite ready yet, so another 24 hours.

Meanwhile I’m now on an 8 hour trip to boost my phosphate levels, and it’s incapacitating my right hand nearly as much as my left. This took forever to type.

Feeling a bit sorry for myself but it’ll pass.

  • It’s a time for little steps, particularly physical ones. I spent some time yesterday out of bed sitting in a chair and hope to do more today.

I was going to add a photo but the functionality is currently eluding me. Perhaps later.

In the meantime, my phone is set to do not disturb so it might take me awhile to spot any messages or emails.

Surgery went well, will be in recovery next.

  • Not really.  But somewhat eventful as my dress snagged on the restaurant table at dinner and tore.

Never mind, husband and reception team to the rescue, I shall go to the Ball tomorrow… or at least the hospital without a torn dress.

Early start tomorrow but just because I have to be there at 7 bears no relationship to when the surgery will actually occur so be ready for a long silence before the next post.

  • Short notice change, my surgery date is no longer a week from Monday, it’s been brought forward to next Tuesday, 11 November.

There’s no question it’s a good thing to get this over and done with asap, it’s just got me scrambling to make sure I’ve got everything organised.

So, by this time next week I’ll be several days into my recovery and looking forward to going home. That’s a pleasant thought.

  • Monday 17 November is my surgery date.

Other than that, not a lot to say about today. Lots of “we can’t be 100% sure until we get in there”, which also applies to my finger. On the positive side, apparently there’s a chance I won’t need chemo at all after the surgery, it all depends on the tests they do on what they take out.

    So still waiting.

But at least I now have a date.

  • Surgery.

I don’t have a surgery date yet but it has been confirmed it will be at Auckland Hospital when it does happen.

What I do have is a short notice appointment for tomorrow to meet with the surgeon and anaesthetist and get any extra scans and tests done that they see fit to order for me. The appointment actually recommends bringing snacks and something to read as it is expected to take 4-5 hours.

The short notice does not in itself indicate anything untoward; they do these sessions on Thursdays, apparently, and next week would have been fine, but why wait when I don’t have to?

So I could know more by tomorrow, or not depending on whether I have to wait to get the date confirmed, but the good news is it’s surgery first. Now hopefully the oncologist tomorrow will be happy to talk to Simon and maybe I will get my hand fixed this year after all.

Fingers crossed…. on my good hand, at least.
