Today I looked out the window and saw the peach tree has started blooming.

It’s a bit hard to see in the photo so I got a close up.

Sarah wanted to share some photos of the peach blossoms of the trees my great-grandfather cultivated but the comments section won’t allow attachments so here they are: aren’t they beautiful? I wish I had them here.

On my way to the peach tree I caught the first signs of blossom on the pear tree. It’s probably going to burst tomorrow.

pear blossoms still closed up tight but not for too much longer

What else did I see in the garden?

The fig is developing leaves.

fig leaves still bundled tight

I also spotted an iris I didn’t know we had. The blue is so pale it looks grey.

The new plum tree has more foliage…

…and our thornless blackberry from the old house is funally showing the first signs of growth in its new home.

Spring is definitely here an the garden is enjoying it, though it remains to be seen how much it will enjoy the dry summer forecast to come.

Wonderful to see Charlotte. You have covered a lot of what I grew up with.

Beautiful deep pink blossoms of peaches from Sarah. Love the fruit you can’t get up here, Apricots especially

Reminds me of my old days in the 50’s growing up in Hillsborough, Mt Roskill, Auckland, we had Peaches, yellow and white flesh, Nectarines, yellow flesh, Apples, red/green striped Gravenstein and Granny Smith, cant remember what each colour blossom was on each tree, it just was a lovely sight. Lemons, Meyer, limes, and grapefruit. Passionfruit, Cape gooseberries, and blackberries.

At Nicholson Ave we had Clementine mandarins, golden delicious and granny smith apples, peaches and nectarines persimmons, Cheryamoya, feijoas, guavas (red), tree tomatoes, red, grapefruit, passion fruit green sweet grape, fig, that never went well in a pot, but Lizzie took some samples and we have cuttings here, black berries and boysenberries, strawberries.

We had a very fruitful life, still do.!

I remember cartons of, I thought they were tangelos, arriving from Aunty Mary and Uncle Bob from Nicholson Ave ….they were delicious and much appreciated by us all. The packaging was something out of this world… I remember Aunty Mary sending all sorts to her sisters and I loved her unique style of packaging. A dear aunt your grandmother was Charlotte.

Lovely to see all the flowers and blossom coming in your garden. I don’t know what summer will bring weather wise with all the ominous predictions we are getting. Snow on the Alps down here and a biting wind outside today but the sun is shining. The flowering peach trees of grandad’s are weeping as well as having the double blossom. 💕
